Baby #2 is due in 3 weeks and I am wondering on the safety benefits of a capsule vs just using our SnS Royale?  On the rearfacing page of this site you say that capsules tend to fit newborns better.  The Royale has an insert that plumps out the back of the seat a bit, and I also have one of those head support thingies that I'd generally use in a capsule anyway.  I know capsules tend to be more convenient but it is a cost issue at the moment as we are having to spend $580 on a Maxi Rider II AHR plus protecta harness for DS so was wondering if it would still be just as safe to use the convertible seat and avoid the capsule altogether?
Thanks.

I think your baby will be just as safe in a convertible seat as they would be in a capsule, i think the capsule is just convenient Smiley My niece went straight into a convertible car seat, she fit well in it Smiley Have you bought the Safe and Sound Maxi Rider 2 AHR? If so what are they like?

Unfortunately Bonnie seems to have disappeared!  Come back Bonnie!

Anyhow, as for your question, I think the main issues are fit and convenience.  It is very handy, particularly in cold weather or at night to be able to strap baby in and then put a blanket on top and transport him/her to the car, rather than exposing the baby to the cold getting them in and out of the seat.

I think it's a personal choice issue and it's perfectly OK to do either - if you wanted the convenience of the capsule, you can always hire through plunket rather than buying.

Yep, have decided to hire a capsule, the $5 per week will cover the convenience of getting DS to preschool without having to load and unload the baby out of the carseat every time (until the baby is six months old that is  Smiley )
